What is Budokon?
Budokon, abbreviated BDK, is a hybrid movement system created by american mixed martial artist Cameron Shayne. It combines martial arts and Yoga with Calisthenics, animal locomotion, mobility training and striking and grappling techniques.
Budokon is for movers of all types seeking the highest level of agility, mobility, stamina, and strength.
The word Budokon derives from the Japanese syllables BU (warrior) DO (way) and KON (spirit), and translates as "The way of the warrior spirit". It was named for the spirit one must posses in order to change the changeable and make peace with the unchangeable.
Philosophically, Budokon roots in Zen Buddhism, with Zazen Meditation being one of the main components of practice.
Budokon practitioners are encouraged to critical thinking, self reflection and ongoing personal development.

“Animal locomotion”, also “animal movement”, refers to any method animals use to move - slithering, crawling, running, jumping, flying, swimming, creeping.
We tend to forget this, but we human beings are animals as well – the biggest primates 🐒 - and our bodies are built to move.
As children we roll, crawl, pull ourselves up, climb, walk and jump – then we lose many of these natural inborn abilities through sedentary lifestyle and artificial living environment
This restriction of movements leads to all kinds of illnesses, postural problems, back pain etc.
To imitate the way animals move is a fun way of reconnecting to our innate movement potential.
It provides a full body training that does not put strain on the joints, but actually reliefs pressure fro them, especially from the hips. It helps improve mobility and flexibility, core strength and stability, and allows us to get creative.
Summarized, it makes us better movers in a holistic, 36o° way and gives us new tools and ideas we may then apply to any specific discipline we want.

About BDK Milan
Budokon Milan is founded by Susanne Abele.
Originally from Germany, living in Italy since 2017, from early childhood on Susanne has been a passionate student of dance, martial arts, fitness and Yoga.
In 2018 she completed her first 200hrs Vinyasa Yoga TT. By January 2024 she has accumulated over 800 training and 2000 teaching hours in different Yoga methods, teaching Yoga and movement full time in Milan, Italy, and online.
Susanne discovered Budokon in 2020, and completed the Budokon Yoga TT in April 2022. Since then she's committed to spread this discipline in Milan and grow the Budokon community.
What she loves most about Budokon is the freedom it brings the practitioner, the tools it provides to move creatively, and the "thinking outside the box" mindset it's based on - something that added creativity, lightness and new viewpoints to the way she moves, and to her life in general.
Susanne teaches Budokon Yoga, and includes Budokon inspired mobility training, animal locomotion and strength training in her Yoga and workout classes.
She enjoys practicing, developing and sharing a cross-discipline understanding of human movement, and connects different disciplines into what is most beneficial for her students.
